EFESO presents Industrie 4.0 Awards to pioneers in industrial digitization
EFESO Management Consultants, a global operations consulting firm, has revealed the winners of its annual Industrie 4.0 Awards, with this year’s recipients based in Germany, China, and Malaysia.
Launched in 2013 at the dawn of industrial digitalization, the Industrie 4.0 Awards recognize companies that demonstrate leadership in implementing Industry 4.0 technologies. The award is open to all types of organizations – from startups and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to large multinational corporations. The key criterion is demonstrated excellence in the practical application of industrial digitization.
The 2025 edition was the most competitive edition to date, attracting submissions from organizations around the globe. After an extensive review process, the jury selected three winners in categories Organizational Empowerment, Smart Factory, and AI-Driven Production.
Organizational Empowerment
Winner: BMW Group – Dingolfing Plant, Germany
The Dingolfing plant is one of the world’s largest automotive production facilities and BMW Group’s biggest vehicle plant in Europe. Since 2021, it has been implementing a range of digitalization, lean manufacturing, and automation initiatives across multiple production segments. Within the plant, two teams were singled out by the jury for their outstanding performance: the body shop team and the paint shop team.
This marks the third time BMW Group has received an Industrie 4.0 Award from EFESO Management Consultants, following recognition of the Regensburg plant in 2018 and the Steyr plant in 2023.
Smart Factory
Winner: Keysight Technologies – Penang Plant, Malaysia
Keysight Technologies produces electronic design and test systems used in 5G communications, aerospace, and automotive industries. Its Penang plant, operational since 1972, has implemented multiple digitalization and automation initiatives under a Smart Factory framework.
The plant successfully integrated several Industry 4.0 technologies into both production lines and its test center, including augmented reality, robotics, and advanced data analytics. These innovations not only digitally support manual operations but also enhance the factory’s flexibility, adaptability, and overall efficiency.
AI-Driven Production
Winner: CATL – Sichuan Plant, China
The Sichuan plant is one of 13 global production sites of CATL, a leading manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for new energy technologies. Facing rapidly growing global demand and intensifying competition, the plant has embraced AI-driven solutions to advance its Industry 4.0 strategy.
The jury highlighted the plant’s impressive results using deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision, which have significantly optimized production processes.
Like BMW Group, CATL is also a repeat winner, having previously been recognized for its initiative at the Ningde plant in southeastern China.
