Roland Berger grows battery consulting arm through acquisition of Alexec Consulting
Global strategy consulting firm Roland Berger has acquired Alexec Consulting, a Polish-origin boutique specialising in the automotive and mobility sectors.
Founded in 2020, Alexec Consulting has grown into a 30-person team delivering projects across Europe, the United States, and North Africa. The consulting firm works for well-known car brands including Audi, Mercedes, Scania, and Volkswagen, as well as battery producers such as LG and PowerCo, bringing deep expertise in battery solutions for electric vehicles and e-mobility.
With more than 100 projects delivered for over 60 clients, Alexec Consulting has established itself as a high-impact player in the battery ecosystem. Its services range from advising on battery-cell and system R&D operations to cost improvement programmes and factory and supply chain operations.
On many of those projects, Alexec Consulting in fact worked side by side with Roland Berger – a collaboration that has now culminated in a full acquisition. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
“Batteries are integral to critical infrastructure, data centres, and the path towards climate neutrality. The global battery market is at a strategic tipping point, requiring rapid industrial execution,” said Marcus Berret, Global Managing Director at Roland Berger. “With Alexec Consulting, we are welcoming highly skilled technical experts to further enhance how we support and create value for our clients.”
According to a report from Roland Berger, worldwide investments across the battery value chain are set to rise significantly to more than €850 billion by 2035. During this period, global demand for battery cells is forecast to grow by 12% annually, with Europe’s demand rising even faster at 17%. A separate report from Alexec Consulting released in 2024 presented similarly strong growth scenarios, which are unsurprisingly also catching the attention of investors.
Alexec Consulting to retain its brand
Under the wings of Roland Berger, Alexec Consulting will continue to operate as a stand-alone entity under its existing brand.
“Joining forces with Roland Berger is the ideal way for us to scale our business globally,” said Idriss Alami, Managing Partner of Alexec Consulting. “Through Roland Berger’s international network and strong brand, we gain access to new markets and top-tier clients.”
Jan Wasserbaech, Partner at Alexec Consulting, added: “By combining our deep technical DNA with Roland Berger’s strategic excellence, we can now support the industry from the initial concept through the entire industrialisation and factory ramp-up. We look forward to building the future of electromobility as part of Roland Berger.”
For Roland Berger, with revenues of €1 billion the largest strategy consultancy of European origin, the deal marks its first acquisition since buying Amane Advisors in 2024. “This acquisition is another milestone in our global growth strategy,” Berret concluded.
The deal
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Alexec Consulting was supported by Consulting M&A, which provided transaction support, while Roland Berger closed the deal with its in-house M&A team.
